Hi there – my name is [insert name] and I’m a local constituent. I live in [your suburb].

I'm calling because I'm appalled by current rates of Jobseeker and related income support payments. JobSeeker is is a measely $44 a day, well below the poverty line, with Youth Allowance being even less. There is no way to recover from tough times and rebuild your life, say nothing of support a family or afford essential medication, on these poverty payments.

I'm asking [MP's name] to champion this issue in their party and push their political leaders to committ to an increase of *at the very least* $25 a day, which would put income support payments almost up to the poverty line.

$44 a day is not enough to cover the essentials of life, including rent and the cost of job searching. The Government's system of punative mutual obligations and job service providers will not help get people into jobs.

I ask [MP's name] to understand the consequences of their support or silence on this issue. Their decision will lead to thousands of people being evicted, tens of thousands of people unable to treat illnesses and injuries, and millions of people, including one million children, going cold and hungry.

Thank you for your time.
