Raising JobSeeker should be a “first priority”: EIAC report

On Tuesday night, the first report of a government-appointed committee recommended raising JobSeeker and related payments as the “first priority” to address inadequacy in our income support system.

The Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee report sends a clear message to government that JobSeeker and related payments entrench people in poverty and create a barrier to paid work for people looking for a job.

The government has not ruled out lifting JobSeeker and income support payments in this year’s budget and now is the time to act.
